years spanning the 1825 Treaty of Prairie du Chien and the
Black Hawk War of 1832 witnessed monumental change for the
regions Indian people. These were the years of Lincoln's youth
and the Black Hawk War would bring him, as a citizen-soldier,
to what would become the state of Wisconsin. Living
