Crawford County, Wisconsin

Three rivers, orchards, river bluffs, ridges and valleys, small towns and quaint farmsteads make this county a must for those who like to travel the backroads. Over 1,000 miles of scenic paved roads.

Hwy 35 - Prairie du Chien to Ferryville (23 miles)
Highway 35 is a National Scenic Byway and named the Wisconsin Great River Road. Scenic drive along bluffs of the Mississippi River, lock & dam, Bald Eagle nests, lodging, and food.

County Hwy C - Ferryville to Soldiers Grove (25 miles)
Winding hills, unique sites, lodging, and food

Hwy 131 - Soldiers Grove to Wauzeka (27 miles)
Winding rolling roads follows the Kickapoo River for entire distance, orchards, state wildlife area, food

Hwy 60/35 - Wauzeka to Prairie du Chien (17 miles)
Scenic views of the Wisconsin River on what is likely to become a scenic byway; food, and lodging

Wisconsin to Iowa Loops

The scenic roads along the Mississippi River can’t be beat. Options to cross the river are available at not only Prairie du Chien, but at Lansing, Iowa and Cassville, Wisconsin. These connections to Iowa from Wisconsin make a great day trip along the mighty Mississippi.

Hwy 76/X52/35 (50 miles)
Travel from Prairie du Chien to Iowa across the bridge on Hwy 18, take Hwy 76 north along the river to X52. Travel X52 north through Harpers Ferry, then to Lansing, IA. Cross the Mississippi at the Lansing bridge, then take Hwy 35 south back to Prairie du Chien. Enjoy river vistas, backwater tours, prehistoric and historic sites, long hikes, antiques, museums, unique shops, and
birding.

Hwy 35/ Grant County Roads (60 miles)
Travel from Prairie du Chien south on Hwy 35, turn right on County C for a few miles, at the top of the hill turn left on County X a mile or so. Turn right on County P going south to Bagley. From Bagley travel County A to County V V to Cassville. You can cross the Mississippi on the Cassville Car Ferry (call ahead for ferry hours 608-725-5180) and loop back north on the Iowa side to Millville. Take Highway 52 to Guttenberg, then County road X56 to Clayton. From there you continue to McGregor, Marquette, and back to Prairie du Chien across the bridge. Curvy, hilly, roads, river towns, state park, lock and dam, small farmsteads, food, shopping, and lodging.
